This is probably going to be the path forward after the eventual phasing out of Java 8 (the other option being things like OpenJDK). Preliminary thoughts/links:

• javapackager (https://docs.oracle.com/javase/9/tools/javapackager.htm) is the official solution, but is only for Java 9+
• https://github.com/fvarrui/JavaPackager is a Maven plugin for javapackager. It’s still in early days and a bit rough around the edges, but is essentially what I would want to integrate it into the build system.
• AppImage is a Linux solution that supports Java 8 (https://github.com/AppImage/AppImageKit/wiki/Bundling-Java-apps; Option 2) and looks easy enough.
• Already have the “XP image” for Windows that could serve as an all-purpose Windows solution. The main reason it hasn’t so far is the larger download size.
