ytdlc seems dormant or abandoned, see https://github.com/blackjack4494/yt-dlc/issues/296.
ytdlc was itself forked with https://github.com/pukkandan/yt-dlp and it's been actively worked on there (merging youtube-dl upstream changes back into it), even supporting retrieving YouTube comments, though in a suboptimal slow way as reported on Invidious matrix:
Can't tell for sure, but it looks like their extractor is grabbing all replies from a comment as well, which is what would slow it down quite a bit since that's potentially several extra calls. Besides that it's the same way I'm fetching comments in FreeTube.
It's around 10 comments / second from my testing
See also https://github.com/TheFrenchGhosty/TheFrenchGhostys-Ultimate-YouTube-DL-Scripts-Collection/issues/37 for another suggestion of fork, haruhi-dl, though not really compelling maybe.
Sure thing. There's no need to migrate now, but I will do it next time I need to fiddle with youtube-dl things. (Marking as closed:implemented.)
Implemented with https://lists.sr.ht/~cadence/tube-devel/patches/21694
