I haven't updated since 1.5.0, but in case we're looking at the same layout, the ^ key placed at the traditional Control key position should works as you would expect. The symbol might not obvious at first but it should be clear when you think of the whole combination, e.g. ^C.

I think in the default layout, the Ctrl key, with the ^ symbol, is where Caps Lock key usually is just left of the letter A

Oh yeah, thanks, that's totally unintuitive. I much prefer the layout from before the update, even if it wasn't perfect either.
