#1 python: freebsd support 6 months ago

Comment by ~retzoh on ~retzoh/manifest-templates-discussions

I am currently stuck at the pip setup of the project. (see this build)

For some reason, the pip execution fails to load the libffi.so.6 library.

ImportError: libffi.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have found other occurrences of this problem by looking around (like this one but the proposed fixes do not solve the problem here.

I have started to write a freeBSD manifest here

There is no official support of conda on freeBSD. Yet portability from linux is supposed to be possible. See freeBSD handbook page.

#72 Broadcast only mailing list 6 months ago

Comment by ~retzoh on ~sircmpwn/lists.sr.ht

Update: Creating a new list with no permissions to anyone on a completely new account still raises the

host mail.sr.ht[/tmp/lists.sr.ht-lmtp.sock] said: 500 Rejected. Non-subscribers are not allowed to post to this list. (in reply to end of DATA command)

error when posting to it. It seems the permission overriding capabilities for the owner do not work as expected.

#72 Broadcast only mailing list 6 months ago

Ticket created by ~retzoh on ~sircmpwn/lists.sr.ht

Hi :) I created a list with:

  • browse permissions for everyone
  • post permissions for no-one
  • reply permissions for no-one According to the > The list owner (you) is always granted all permissions.

at the end of the permissions setting dashboard, this should give me a broadcast only channel.

It's supposed to be an update channel to send relevant information about a repository. Yet when I try to send a new post to it, I received the following error:

host mail.sr.ht[/tmp/lists.sr.ht-lmtp.sock] said: 500 Rejected. Non-subscribers are not allowed to post to this list. (in reply to end of DATA command)

I was using a email+sr_ht@gmail.com mail address as signup address. Yet the address I was sending the post with was just email@gmail.com. This looks like what is described in issue 65.

I did solve this issue with the two following steps:

  • Change my profile email+sr_ht@gmail.com address to email@gmail.com
  • Click unsubscribe and then subscribe on the list's dashboard

(Side note: from this step, I do receive posts on lists for which I went through the unsubscribe-subscribe steps)

When re-attempting to send my post, I then got the following error:

host mail.sr.ht[/tmp/lists.sr.ht-lmtp.sock] said: 500 Rejected. You are not allowed to post to this list. (in reply to end of DATA command)

Here are some debugging steps I tried:

  1. Adding subscriber post permission alone yields the same error
  2. Adding signed in post permission alone yields the same error
  3. Adding both subscriber and signed in post permissions let me successfully send the post
  4. Running those 3 steps with an entirely new list yields exactly the same results: error, error, success

Here is one last run I tried:

  • Set back the email address on the profile page to email+sr_ht@gmail.com
  • Set it as default on my email client
  • Create a new mailing list
  • Post a message with all posting permissions enabled: OK
  • Test configuration 1 from above: same result, not allowed ERROR
  • Test configuration 2 from above: same result, not allowed ERROR
  • Test configuration 3 from above (that did work): non-subscriber denial ERROR

(traceback)

host mail.sr.ht[/tmp/lists.sr.ht-lmtp.sock] said: 500 Rejected. Non-subscribers are not allowed to post to this list. (in reply to end of DATA command)

So there does seem to be an existing issue with + email addresses.

For now I will be switching back to the no-+ email address. But I would like to know: is it possible to have broadcast-only email lists ?
