WSL: Cannot spawn other processes

On Windows Subsystem for Linux, aerc seems unable to spawn processes. The simplest possible usecase is to open aerc and try to open a new terminal via :term, which produces the error

fork/exec /home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew/bin/zsh: invalid argument

In a similar (possibly related) fashion, aerc can browse lists just fine but when trying to open a message, nothing gets redered (because less fails to spawn?). The logs indicate that the communication with the server works and the body is downloaded.

How can I see what the actuall call to zsh (or less) is?

This seems to be a WSL-problem:

https://github.com/jesseduffield/lazygit/issues/360 https://github.com/creack/pty/issues/67

A temporary workaround seems to be running aerc with elevated privileges. I'm closing this ticket since aerc can't do anything here.
