It would be useful to be able to go back and fix typos in comments. Edited comments should show an
edited notification to indicate a change was made.
The lack of editing is deliberate, but let me think about it.
Ah, I see, comments go out as emails. Kinda impossible to take those back once you've sent them. It's a design decision.

I do not want to start a
+1 frenzy here, but there's no voting feature AFAIK. I'd like to have this feature too. I'm using comments to make notes about specific topics and brainstorming ideas for a solution. Like when choosing a language for a project I have a comment for each language and track thoughts, pros and cons. Being able to change comments later on is crucial for this.
Maybe it's okay to just send the initial comment via e-mail? (or I just think of a different workflow for myself then).
I'm still not convinced. Maybe you should have a scratch git repo, or just edit the ticket description?
