I don't think we should sort channels by number of packages/services they provide by default: I wouldn't want channels' maintainers to feel like they are in some kind of competition. Maybe it's better just to sort alphabetically? Or maybe I'm overthinking things. Let me know what you think
I agree with you on this. Sorting the channels by number of packages creates a hierarchy that might influence thinking about the channels in a certain way. I prefer for it to stay non-hierarchical by default.
One thing we could provide in the future is a way of optionally sorting by different quantifiable criteria, i.e., packages, services, public-symbols, etc but not make it the default.
Sorting by just number of packages also puts to much focus on packages over the other type of Scheme objects mentioned above.
